This map supports the fact that humans were able to bring about the peopling the earth. As you can see in the graphic above. These communities although originally very similar will segregate and form independent cultures and governments. Humans were able to do this because of their creative uses of their environments which allowed them to adapt even to the savanna, desert, and tundra.
1.1 I Summary (in our own words)
1.1.I Archeological evidence indicates that during the Paleolithic era, hunter- forager bands of humans gradually migrated from their origin in East Africa to Eurasia, Australia, and the Americas, adapting their technology and cultures to new climate regions. -College Board
What does Big Geography mean? According to College Board: "big geography draws attention to the global nature of world history.
|
This draws our attention to how world history encompasses the entire globe. This means that it is literally impossible to memorize the specific time of every 'significant' event, every leader's actions, all origins of impossible amounts of religions and complex societies, etc. However the general understanding of the event's influence on the immediate time period and time preceding that event is crucial. Along with the understanding of impacts caused by important figures of influence, and the causes and effects of regional religions and cultures.
Essentially Ap World history is less about how much you can memorize and more about how much can you understand, compare, contrast, and apply historical events and societies. |
What does peopling of the earth refer to?
|
This refers to the diffusion of human society throughout the world.

Hunters in the Paleolithic era are hunting their prey. They are using stone tools and band together to follow their food. This system was important for understaning past societies because it allowed for the development of higher social structures over time. These bands were able to hunt lager prey and support larger populations. Moreover these societies showed the technological advancement and ingenuity of the human species.

Homo sapiens developed numerous tools using a wide variety of materials like stone or bone. The sophisticated tools made by our ancestors show high intelligence and physiological developments of homo sapiens. They became more creative and made finer, more efficient tools like the harpoon, bow and arrow, and spear-throwers. They used antlers and bone which they sewed with animal skin to tailor to individual sizes. Homo sapiens adapted to their surrounding region and climate and constructed tools to help aid them with hunting.
This cave painting for Lascaux depicts hunters trying to gain control over the spirits of large animals. There is no clear explanation for the art, but the painting could just be used to beautify the living quarters. The painting also shows how homo sapiens used numerous resources to draw the painting. They used mortar and pestle for grinding pigments and mixing paints, which they applied with moss, frayed twigs and branches, or primitive brushes fabricated from hair. These techniques show the vast knowledge of homo sapiens and their intellect. Also, by implementing stone tools, homo sapiens were able to hunt safer and more efficiently. This led to more time for arts/crafts and development of other past time activities.
